WHY WE SET UP +258?
Taking Mozambican Cuisine to the World.
+258 was born from the imagination, determination and persistence of two Mozambican investors with an intense passion for truly authentic Mozambican cuisine. The restaurant name +258 is derived from the country’s dialling code and perfectly embodies the true spirit our home country, Mozambique.
Our space has been carefully designed for visitors to enjoy a wholesome and immersive Mozambican experience, to discover our food and flavours, to drink, shop, listen to music and to feel the genuine cultural vibe of an outstanding country.
Mozambican cuisine comprises one of the most fascinating food cultures in the world.
A culinary fusion of different cultural flavours clash in Mozambique, yet it somehow retains its distinct individuality – all to be tasted at +258.
‘‘The food here [Mozambique] is the best in Africa. But the secret of Mozambican cuisine isn’t quite out around the globe yet”
(American Chef & Food TV Presenter)
HOW WE EAT AT +258
Sharing meals and drinks strengthens bonds between people.
Our restaurant is centered around a sharing concept which is why we’ve crafted our menu items to be shared between friends, lovers, family or acquaintances. We do offer our guests the opportunity to transform our sharing menu into an a la carte menu.
What makes Mozambican cuisine so unique?
Mozambican cuisine is a mix of African, Eastern and European flavours, coming together to create distinct and intriguing sensory experiences. Our country’s culinary marvel has been deeply influenced by the various cultures we’ve encountered in our long history – Arab, Portuguese, Chinese (Macau), Brazilian, Angolan and West African countries such as São Tomé Príncipe, Cabo Verde and Guinea Bissau.
These culinary influences have been further impacted by the local Bantu communities within the country such as Chuwabo, Sena, Ndaw, Nyungwe, Makonde, Yao, Makhuwa, Mwani, Nyanja, Nsenga, Shona, Chope, Bitonga, Ronga, Changane, Tswa, Nguni and more – resulting in a glorious blend of native and foreign cultural tastes.
